Children moving from the Early Learning Centre to the Preschool are supported through an established transition process. Parents of transitioning children are notified prior to their move. They will be given the opportunity to postpone the move if, after discussion with the Supervisor, they feel it appropriate.
The age of children transitioning will vary between 3 and 4 years old. Transition timing depends on availability at the Preschool. This in turn depends on children leaving the centre to attend school. Children aged within a month of each other will be considered to transition – we also have to bear in mind their days of attendance which will need to match the days of the exiting child at the Preschool. We will ask if you would consider changing your child’s enrolled days if it means transitioning them sooner.
The childcare centre has numerous literacy and numeracy resources available that are used on a daily basis both in group activities and individually. In addition to the special activities that we organise, a numeracy and literacy focus is incorporated into many of our daily activities, including mat-times, songs, reading, art, playdough and outdoor areas of play such as the sandpit, water play, jumping and boxes. Evidence of your child’s progress can also be seen in his/her profile which is regularly updated.
If you have any questions regarding transitioning or our programme planning, please talk to a member of staff.
